Mabel Strickland and Ruth Roach.
Both women became cowgirl saddle bronc champions and Mabel put the fear of God into the hearts of many a cowboy who tried to compete with her in the art of steer roping. Having been outdone by the cowgirl one too many times, one cowboy pleaded with Mabel's husband, Hugh Strickland to curb his wife and encourage her to compete only with the cowgirls. He said she was making the cowboys look bad.... I guess it was a bit embarrassing in that day and age to be outdone by a girl.
But, oh man, were they outdone! Time and time again by one of the greatest cowgirls of all time.
